I love to blog. I wish I could fully commit. But between maintaning a full time job, personal life and everyday routines blogging becomes trickier than it may seem. It's not even the blogging itself, keeping up with everything else around it is physically impossible. I can't be on social media at all times, as a result I miss out on so many chats I would love to contribute to, I don't interact with others and I don't read their blogs as frequently as I would usually do. I end up catching up over the weekends or at ridiculous times of the day and reply days after all the discussions had been done. Most of the time I can't help but feel left out of the community I would love to be a better part of. One of my 2016 goals was to be more organized, more productive and perhaps do a bit more other than write a to-do list and expect it to magically accomplish itself, hence I spent the last few weeks trying to figure out how to achieve this.
You make time when there is none.
Since there's not enough time in the day to do the things you enjoy you just have to find the time somehow. Sounds simple. I always admire people who come home ready for round number 2 past 5 pm. I don't know how you would have energy to do anything else other than eating etc. However now that my love for blogging has been reignited once again I push myself a bit more and do at least one productive thing before bed. Be it drafting new posts, coming up with new ideas or catching up on blogs and interacting with other bloggers. I. Try.
Quality over quantity.
That's not to say bloggers who publish daily don't post content of good quality. However, very often when given so little time I would post and not be entirely happy with the things I would talk about. I would feel guilty for not spending enough time thinking the topic and structure of the post through. I've been ending up redoing and reposting so many of them anyway so there really is no point in producing a slapdash content. I eventually had to tell myself to take a step back even if the freqnency of posting was going to suffer. I think it's for the better because it gives me a bit more time to actually plan even if my schedule is very casual.
Making the most of your lunch breaks and bus/train trips.
I spend a lot of time commuting, quite enough during the day to be able to draft a paragraph or two. I come up with most of my topics on the go. I quite like it because it's the time I feel most motivated- the time when I have absolutely zero time for blogging and should be doing something entirely different. Anyone else? Nevertheless, I always carry a notebook around, you never know when you might need it.
Taking all of your photos on the weekend.
Lots of them. Because when you live up north there is no natural light past 4 pm. Also because when you work full time, you leave and return in an absolute darkness. It's currently Saturday, I'm on my 3rd cuppa and the sun is out. What more could I ask for?
Have you got any further tips?
