From the Community: 3 summer staples
We've been lucky to have a nice summer this year and even though the temperatures have gone down a bit it is still warm enough for a sun dress I say. This season I found myself chopping and changing my usual make up routine despite me refusing to follow seasonal trends (when it comes to make up I like to wear the same things all year round). This time though I played with different shades of foundation and took a break from the 90's brown lip (a break for awhile, not forever).
Most importantly though, I have approached and spoken to some of the members of the community about their most used beauty products this summer. Here's what they thought. (Grab a cuppa/get a snack, it'll be an interesting one).
Weathering summer beauty is a ritual that I’d like to think I’ve mastered after living in hot and humid Hong Kong. First up, a face base with SPF is a must: my current go-to is the L a n e i g e Whitening BB Cushion which is fortified with SPF50/PA+++ because it’s buildable, looks oh so natural, and can easily be popped in your bag for on-the-go touch-ups. I also can’t be without my beloved
G l o s s i e r Boy Brow. Somewhat of a cult product in the industry, this grooms my brows and keeps them in place all day, no matter the temperature. The mini spoolie is the cutest thing ever. And lastly, it’s gotta be a coral nail colour! Perfect for instantly adding ‘summer’ to your everyday look, and it complements a tan if you’ve managed to get one during this heatwave.
This summer in the UK has especially been face melting. Luckily (or not) Scotland has become much cooler recently but it’s still humid. This means I have been relying on specific products that will help keep my makeup on my face. My new favourite foundation is surprisingly from P r i m a r k, My Perfect Colour Longwear Ultimate Matte Foundation is a fraction of the price of Estee Lauder Double Wear and it’s just as good. In fact, I think I prefer the finish of Primark. Now while this stays in place by itself the heat is causing some issues so I’ve been using R e v o l u t i o n P r o Supreme Hold Finishing Spray, it sets makeup without any stickiness and keeps makeup looking fresh. And finally, to keep refreshed throughout the day I love M a r i o B a d e s c u Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea. I keep it in the fridge for extra freshness.
I recently returned from two weeks in LA, during a heatwave which saw 42° conditions, so hearing Brits complain about the heat back home has resulted in quite a few eyebrow raises from me! I'll be honest, there were days whereby it was so hot I didn't bother with any hair or makeup.... just countless scoops of ice cream for which I am still trying to burn off at the gym. That being said, there were a few stand out items that kept me prepped, some of which I'd love to share with readers of Stromvoe.
B o b b i B r o w n Skin Foundation Stick. Here's the thing. Makeup on a plane is an absolute no-no for me especially if it's long haul. However when I'm meeting my boyfriend at the other end and it's been 7 months since we last saw each other, I want to look at least 10% like I do in my photos. This is where the Bobbi Brown foundation stick comes in. Not only does it work better in warmer weather due to it melting into the skin much easier with a bit of heat, but it also bypasses airport security seamlessly (unlike my Carmex which got me held up at security for 20 minutes, because a solid balm is apparently a liquid, but I digress...)
My shade is alabaster, however if you are not the fairest of the fair like moi, you can buy one shade lighter and darker as well as your actual shade to have foundation, highlight and contour wherever you are.
U r b a n D e c a y - All Nighter Setting Spray. This is technically a cheat entry as I didn't have this with me on my trip, but really wish I had of done! Even makeup legend Jeffree Star was tweeting about this product during the LA heatwave! If I had of taken this with me, then wearing foundation in the searing heat would have been much more achievable.
N a r s – The Multiple (Orgasm). How do you follow a product title like that? Similar to the Bobbi Brown stick, having a cream blusher in a stick is fantastic as the product will just glide right across the skin in the heat, and of course doesn't require a brush to apply. My preferred method is to go over the blusher with my foundation sponge to make it all blend seamlessly. For fairer skins the shade is perfect, although with a name like multiple orgasm this is one I prefer to order online.
As far as my favourites go, I finally got a hold of the C h a r l o t t e T i l b u r y's Light Wonder foundation which has made my number one base for the past few weeks. Despite its thin consistency it provides a buildable light to medium coverage. Thanks to its both hydrating and youth-boosting properties it gives a nice even, perfected and soft-focused finish. Next, I remained faithful to Cloud Paint in Dusk from G l o s s i e r. I like this shade in particular because it's perfect for a bit of a 'sun-burnt' flush. Finally, I have gone back to my trusty C l i n i q u e Pop Lip Colour & Primer lipsticks and swapped my usual Mac Taupe for a Beige Pop. I have spoken about these bullets before and really I haven't found anything that would rival their formula and longevity. Yet. Beige Pop is a pretty pinky nude, which is something I wouldn't normally wear.
